Personal profile: Irwin DeVries, PhD
Professional background
I'm Director of Curriculum Development at Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning Division in Kamloops, BC, Canada. In the past I've called myself an instructional designer, educational technologist, program developer and administrator in open and distance learning, variously in career, professional and academic program areas. More recently I've come to think of myself as an "open educator." That's a big concept, and I don't nearly live up to its full meaning or potential. But I keep trying...and learning... My previous employers have included the CMABC Society, Justice Institute of British Columbia, University of British Columbia, Open Learning Agency, and Prentice-Hall Canada.
Education
PhD (Simon Fraser University) Curriculum Theory and Implementation
MA (University of British Columbia) Education
BA (Simon Fraser University) English

My interests
Guitar is definitely up there - I've played in bands and have a number of guitars that are like extra limbs to me. At the moment I play in a band called Breaking Band, consisting mainly of my co-workers from Open Learning.
