Cognitive Presence - Assessment and Feedback to Maximize Student Learning
Overview
explores factors that impact the learner’s cognitive presence and sustain deep learning. You will have opportunities to develop feedback strategies in relation to assessment and those which will encourage deeper student learning.
Outcomes
- analyze the characteristics of ‘cognitive presence’ in an effective online learning environment
- Participants will be able to identify and explain the relevance of the idea of learner agency in distance learning
- Participants will be able to explain the importance of deep approaches to learning in relation to assessment, feedback and student attainment of learning outcomes.
- Participants will be able to evaluate the quality of the feedback that they provide for students in light of relevant evidence-based research.
- Participants will be able to facilitate learning activities to promote deep approaches to learning.
- Establish 3 goals related to improving and enhancing the degree of cognitive presence in your courses
- You will be able to reflect on your own practice and evaluate your progress towards improving and enhancing the degree of cognitive presence in your courses.
