160x119px Scott Blackford, Rights and Permissions Supervisor, Thompson Rivers University Scott completed his Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and minor in Psychology at the University of Alberta. After working for several years in Edmonton, including a brief stint as a free-lance reporter, Scott moved to Saskatoon and attended law school at the University of Saskatchewan. Upon completing his law degree, Scott and his family moved to Kamloops, BC, where Scott completed his articles and began his practice, first in civil litigation and later as a solicitor, at a medium sized Kamloops firm. In December, 2011, Scott brought his contract and Intellectual Property experience to his present role at Thompson Rivers University.

Marlene Brooks, Instructional Designer - Open Learning, Thompson Rivers University Marlene Brooks is an Instructional Designer who participates with a team of specialized personnel from Open Learning, course developers and consultants to develop and implement online cohort, individual web-based, and print university level courses. As an instructional designer, Marlene provides support and service for the development of undergraduate and graduate level courses and participates in the development and review of university programs. Her interest includes the use of new technologies in the teaching/learning environment to meet the needs of today’s learners. Marlene is new to TRU. She has provided curriculum and instructional design support at Memorial University, University of Guelph and University of Regina.

Gail Morong, Instructional Designer- Open Learning, Thompson Rivers University (gmorong@tru.ca) Gail has been a secondary school teacher for 28 years teaching various subjects such as Math, Chemistry, English, dance, drama, special education and career planning. She began working as an instructional designer at TRU-OL in 2008 and was in charge of the busy TRU-OL Business and Economics area for a while, working on minor and major revisions, as well as designing new business courses. She was the instructional designer who developed a Certificate in First Nation Taxation and a Certificate in First Nation Economics - only certificates of their kind in the whole world. Gail is currently working on online courses for a Master of Education and is involved in an open First Nations Economic textbook project and an OER University Art Appreciation course. Gail is enrolled in the final course of a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching and Learning. She is very much interested in universal design and open education since she is originally from the Caribbean and knows that distance education can bring about access to education for disadvantaged students.

Bob Byrne, Curriculum Media Producer ([[1]])

Bob has been involved in distance and online learning technologies since 1992. He has worked at UVic, SFU, and BCIT before coming to TRU in 2006. As multimedia developer, most of Bob's time is spent developing interactive elements for Open Learning courses. In this role, Bob creates media that captures the vision of subject matter experts and instructional designers. His goal is to engage students in dynamic, interactive learning environments. Loretta Ya-Wen Teng, Instructional Designer-Open Learning Thompson Rivers University Loretta has a Ph.D. in Counselling and Career Development from Colorado State University. She is certified in Online Teaching with the California Virtual Campus and is a Master Facilitator for the Instructional Skills Workshop. Loretta was a faculty member in several North American and Taiwanese institutions. She directed several programs in student and academic affairs in the U.S., Asia and the Middle East. She is excited about joining the Open Learning team at TRU.
